چکیده

Most of the vocal and voice diseases cause changes in the acoustic voice signal. Acoustic analysis is a useful tool to diagnose this kind of diseases, furthermore it presents several advantages: it is a non-invasive tool, an objective diagnostic and, also, it can be used for the evaluation of surgical and pharmacological treatments and rehabilitation processes. Most of the approaches found in the literature address the automatic detection of voice impairments from speech by using the sustained phonation of vowels. In this paper it is proposed a new scheme for the detection of voice impairments from text dependent running speech. The proposed methodology is based on the segmentation of speech into voiced and non voiced frames, parameterising each frame with mel frequency cepstral parameters. The classification is carried out using a discriminative approach based on a Multilayer Perceptron Network. The data used to train the system were taken from the voice disorders database distributed by Kay Elemetrics. The material used for training and testing contains the running speech corresponding to the well known " rainbow passage " of 226 patients (53 normal and 173 pathological). The results obtained are compared with those using sustained vowels. The text-dependent running speech showed a light improvement in the accuracy of the detection.

Discriminative methods for the detection of voice disorders1

Support Vector Machines (SVMs) have become a popular tool for discriminative classification. An exciting area of recent application of SVMs is in speech processing. In this paper discriminatively trained SVMs have been introduced as a novel approach for the automatic detection of voice impairments. SVMs have a distinctly different modelling strategy in the detection of voice impairments problem...

A New Algorithm for Voice Activity Detection Based on Wavelet Packets (RESEARCH NOTE)

Speech constitutes much of the communicated information; most other perceived audio signals do not carry nearly as much information. Indeed, much of the non-speech signals maybe classified as ‘noise’ in human communication. The process of separating conversational speech and noise is termed voice activity detection (VAD). This paper describes a new approach to VAD which is based on the Wavelet ...

Voice pathology detection based eon short-term jitter estimations in running speech.

In this paper, we investigate the use of jitter estimation over short time intervals (short-term jitter) for voice pathology detection in the case of running or continuous speech. Short-term jitter estimations are provided by the spectral jitter estimator (SJE), which is based on a mathematical description of the jitter phenomenon. The SJE has been shown to be robust against errors in pitch per...

Anti-spoofing, Voice Conversion

Voice conversion is a process which converts or transforms one speaker’s voice towards that of another. The literature shows that voice conversion can be used to spoof or fool an automatic speaker verification system. State-of-the-art voice conversion algorithms can produce high-quality speech signals in real time and are capable of fooling both human listeners and automatic systems, including ...

Automatic discriminative measurement of voice onset time

We describe a discriminative algorithm for automatic VOT measurement, considered as an application of predicting structured output from speech. In contrast to previous studies which use customized rules, in our approach a function is trained on manually labeled examples, using an online algorithm to predict the burst and voicing onsets (and hence VOT). The feature set used is customized for det...
